Posted by US prosecutors have told the court that Samantha Geimer, the illegal sex victim of Roman Polanski, does not have any rights to dismiss the 30-year-old’s case against the Oscar winning filmmaker.
The county prosecutors of Los Angeles told the California Second District Court of Appeal that the recent revision in the constitution does not give any right to the victims to determine the result of the criminal cases.
They have also asked the court to reject any requests that Geimer has made to transfer the case to another country and unseal the recent testimony. Prosecutors argue that if this request for dismissal is granted, it will change the way the crimes are prosecuted. Geimer has asked the court to dismiss the case and continue other rulings during March.
She wants to dismiss the case because media coverage of the case is a distressing experience for her.
76-year-old Polanski has charges of having illegal intercourse with Geimer, who was 13-year-old in 1977. The director pleaded guilty on the charge, but ran away from US on the day he was about to be sentenced.
Currently, he is house arrest in his chalet of Swiss luxury resort in Gstaad.
