Meanwhile on the other side of the town local lad Tom Yates was braving the weather in his car. The rain meant that the roads were quiet and he was driving cautious. It has been many years since Wigan has seen driving conditions this dangerous. Whilst turning a corner on a main road Tom spotted a trembling wreck in the middle of the road. He had to swerve to miss the bundle of fur, narrowly missing the wall of a house and 3 lamp-posts. At this point Tom was unaware of exactly it was that he was trying to avoid, however showing true bravery he jumped out of his car and dashed towards what turned out to be the young puppy scared of its life. Unsurprisingly the puppy was cold, wet and shivering. Tom immediately scooped up the young pup and took him into the warmth of his car. It is probably the quick thinking of Mr. Yates that saved this puppys life, he immediately wrapped the puppy in a spare jacket located on the back seat of the car and turned up the heating in the vehicle.

Knowing that somewhere a family would be pining for their beloved pet, Tom made it his mission to reunite them. Despite incredibly poor driving conditions and it getting later a night, Tom drove around Wigan until he was able to locate the family. This was no easy feat but he was determined that he would make things right. Eventually after some time he spotted the distraught family and their helpers searching for the small helpless puppy. He beckoned them over, to show them that the puppy was happily snoozing on the front passenger seat of his car.

Everyone was amazed at the effort Tom had gone to in order to make sure that the puppy got home safe. They couldn’t believe that some one would go to that much effort to ensure other peoples happiness. It has been a heart warming story shared between neighbours since the incident and Tom is truly a local hero.

At a photocall on Tuesday morning (May 18) for their latest romantic drama, Blue Valentine, at the Palais des Festivals during the 63^rd Annual Cannes International Film Festival in Cannes, France, co-stars Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling sure looked like real life valentines. There was no mistaking the chemistry between them as the stars cozied up while posing for photos along with the rest of the cast.

Later in the evening, the two were again side-by-side at the Blue Valentine premiere in Cannes. The lovely co-stars were joined by producers Alex Orlovsky, Lynette Howell, and Jamie Patricof, along with actress Faith Wladyka and director Derek Cainfrance.

Blue Valentine is slated to see a limited release in the US on New Year’s Eve, while releasing in Australian cinemas on December 26^th.

Rumors have been doing the rounds that the pair has been dating since January, since they were spotted getting close at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.

The Oscar nominated stars, both 29, “respect their private lives and don’t want to go public,” a source told OK! Magazine, back in February.

During their appearances at Cannes, the co-stars, and actress Faith Wladyka, who plays their daughter in the film, show tremendous chemistry. It looks like the perfect fake family.

Ms Williams has been inviting attention for her stunning new bleached blonde short crop. During the photocall, she wore a Suno mini dress, while she wore a Chanel spring’10 dress for the premiere. She is receiving rave reviews for her look at Cannes this year.

Ms Williams shot to fame with Dawson’s Creek, in which she portrayed the role of Jen Lindley for all the six seasons of the show. The most notable role of her film career is in Brokeback Mountain, where she played the wife of Heath Ledger’s character.

She has a five-year-old daughter, Matilda Ledger, from her engagement to Heath Ledger. The couple fell in love on the sets of Brokeback Mountain, and broke up in 2007. The death of Heath Ledger was a trying time for Ms Williams. During the time, she was frequently reported to be highly agitated and bewildered at the paparazzi. In a statement issued to the press after Heath Ledger’s death, she requested the paparazzi to, “please respect our need to grieve privately. My heart is broken.”

Super couple John Travolta and Kelly Preston are expecting a third child, they announced on Tuesday (May 18) on both their official websites. The couple has good news after a year of their son’s loss.

“It’s impossible to keep a secret…especially as wonderful as this. We want to be the first to share this great news with everyone that we are expecting a new addition to the family,” reads the post.

The post ends with the family’s sign, “Love, John, Kelly and Ella.”

The Star magazine was the first to report Kelly’s pregnancy, although People magazine was the first to confirm it on Tuesday afternoon, reporting that ‘the family’ told People Kelly is pregnant.

John, 56 and Kelly, 47 are also parents to a ten-year old daughter, Ella Bleu Travolta.

The couple lost their first child, 16-year-old son Jett, due to a “seizure disorder” over New Year’s 2009 in their Bahamas home, where the family was holidaying.

Jett had a history of seizures and reportedly suffered from Kawasaki disease in early childhood. In January 2009, three people were arrested in the Bahamas involved in a multi-million dollar extortion plot against the Travoltas, linking to the circumstances of their son’s death.

The happy news is a welcome relief after just a day of confirmation of two small dogs, owned by the Travoltas, being killed at the Bangor International Airport in Maine.

A representative of the airport said in a statement on Tuesday, “Two small dogs on leashes were taken for walk by someone who is not a family member. An airport service pickup truck was approaching the airplane to service the aircraft and did not see the dogs. Unfortunately the dogs were struck and killed.”

The Pulp Fiction star is an experienced pilot himself, and had just landed his own plane.

Lena Horne, the legendary performer, and iconic singer- actress who broke the barriers for black women in Hollywood, died of a heart ailment at the New York- Presbyterian Hospital on May 9.

Throughout a career that spanned six decades, Ms Horne was the epitome of elegance and dignity, whether she was singing, acting, or championing racial equality.

Often considered one of the most beautiful women in the world, Ms Horne made her Hollywood breakthrough in early 1940s when she became the first woman of color in Hollywood to secure a long-term, meaningful contract with a major studio, MGM. At a time when black women were only portrayed as hefty, funny maids in Hollywood movies, this contract specifically mentioned that she would never have to play a maid. Ms Horne, with her composed and dignified on screen presence, paved the way for black women in Hollywood. All along her career, she has been an inspiration and over the years, many African-American performers have been empowered by her example. Oscar winning star, Halle Berry, while accepting the Academy Award for Best Actress for Monsters’ Ball in 2001, called Ms Horne an inspiration.

During the 1930s, when Ms Horne was beginning her career as a young dancer at Harlem’s legendary Cotton Club, appearing on Broadway, and singing and touring with her band, she experienced firsthand discrimination against black performers. This is the reason why she was determined not to play roles that rested on racial stereotypes.

She garnered most of her reputation and acclaim because of the two 1943 all-black musicals that she starred in- ‘Cabin in the Sky’ and ‘Stormy Weather’. In the latter, her rendition of the title track became a major hit and her signature tune.

Following her success, she became one of the first black performers to share the screen with white entertainers. However, the racial discrimination was still a norm, as her portions in the movies would be clipped out for screening the movies in the South.

She was the first black actor to receive star treatment, and MGM went on to feature Ms Horne glamorously in movies and advertisements alongside white stars like Rita Hayworth and Betty Garble.

The MGM contract made her a superstar and eventually she began featuring on television and at major concerts in cities around the world. She made two starring appearances on Broadway too, of which the latter- the 1981 cabaret ‘Lena Horne: The Lady And Her Music’- became a sensation garnering rave reviews and earned her a special Tony Award and two Grammy Awards.

Two of the biggest rappers in the music industry, Eminem and Jay-Z announced today that they will be teaming up to perform at two concerts in September.

With Eminem’s new album, Recovery coming out on June 22^nd, as well as him stating that he has wanted to work with Jay-Z again in the past, this is an ideal superstar tour that will surely be a hit amongst fans. The two are rated very highly – Eminem and Jay-Z ranking 1^st and 2^nd respectively in a poll conducted by Vibe Magazine, asking fans for the Best Rapper of the Decade.

The duo last worked together on the track Renegade, which was a song on Jay-Z’s album The Blueprint which released in 2001. The album was certified platinum, selling over two million units in the U.S. alone.

Eminem has had a troubled time in recent years, taking a hiatus from his music career from 2005-2008 due to drug related issues. However, he is definitely back with a bang – his album Relapse, released on May 19^th 2009 sold over five million copies worldwide.

The two announced the concerts during the 3^rd innings of Wednesday’s game featuring the Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees. Eminem was born in Detroit while Jay-Z comes from New York, and both posed on field wearing their respective team’s jerseys.

This concert will be the first for Eminem in his hometwon since his farewell concert in 2005 which featured many music heavyweights such as 50 Cent, G-Unit and Lil’ John.  Although no other U.S. dates have been announced, Slim Shady plans to spend the summer performing at shows across Europe.

No ticket information has been yet announced for the tours, however plenty will definitely be available. Comerica Park can hold over 41,000 fans and cost over $300 million to build, while the Yankees stadium can fit more than 52,000 fans including seating and standing room.

Both rappers have always wanted to work with each other again, and during the ESPN interview, Eminem seemed excited about the collaboration. The rapper said, “We’ve done things together — smaller shows and whatnot, But I’m not sure we’ve ever done anything this big.”

Jay-Z agreed, saying “I look for opportunities to work with Em, any time we get a chance to collaborate on things.”

If the duo perform at the levels they are capable of, this will be a concert that cannot be missed.

Previously throughout the season the two teams have already played each other four times. Out of those four matches it was The Lakers that were triumphant. Most of this was thanks to Lakers star Kobe Bryant who scored over twenty points alone. It was really only The Suns player Raja Bell that managed to put the spooks on Bryant, however that still wasn’t enough to stop The Lakes from winning.
Players to look for in the whole “Lakers Sun” showdown are Amare Stoudemire, Jason Richardson and Steve Nash. All of these players look set to make the NBA Finals an interesting game to take part in.
Both teams have similar styles in that they are comfortable in playing fast paced basketball. This is something that The Suns have always professed to be experts in, however The Lakers show to be just as good as this.
